NPTEL – SWAYAM LOCAL CHAPTER

NPTEL is an acronym for National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning which is an initiative by seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for creating course contents in engineering and science. NPTEL provides E-learning through online Web and Video courses in Engineering, Science and humanities streams.

SWAYAM (Study Web of Active Learning by Young and Aspiring Minds) is the National MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) portal being developed by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India and designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy viz., access, equity and quality. The objective of this effort is to take the best teaching learning resources to all, including the most disadvantaged. SWAYAM seeks to bridge the digital divide for students who have hitherto remained untouched by the digital revolution and have not been able to join the mainstream of the knowledge economy.

NPTEL is the official SWAYAM national coordinator for engineering. All NPTEL online certification courses are SWAYAM courses too and they are available on the SWAYAM platform as well

NPTEL – SWAYAM local chapter at AAACET

AAACET was recognized as NPTEL – SWAYAM local chapter for online courses under IIT Chennai on 30th July, 2018. The main objective of NPTEL – SWAYAM local chapter is to encourage the faculty and students from all the departments to participate in this initiative. SWAYAM is an instrument for self-actualization providing opportunities for a life-long learning. Courses delivered through SWAYAM are available free of cost to the learners. In this platform learners can choose from thousands of courses that are available in the portal. All the courses are interactive, prepared by the best teachers from IIT’s, IISc and other top Universities/Colleges in the country. Student can also transfer the credits earned by taking these courses into their academic record.

Activities at AAACET-Swayam Local chapter

  • NPTEL Awareness Program are conducted in each semester to motivate the students and faculties to register for NPTEL courses.
  • AAACET students and faculties eagerly participate in the Swayam-NPTEL courses and get certificates from various IIT’s.
      • July-December 2018—233 learners enrolled and get benefited.
      • January-April 2019—107 learners enrolled and get benefited.
      • July-October 2019—171 learners enrolled and get benefited.
      • January-April 2020—204 learners enrolled and get benefited.
      • January-December 2021—224 learners enrolled and get benefited.

    Many students and faculty were awarded with Elite Certificate and Elite silver Certificate from various IIT’s. These certificates will be of great help to the students during their placement interviews and for their higher studies.
